As I made my last post I remember thinking, "Well, I what am I going to do all week since i am officially on maternity leave?" Little did I know I was going to be taking care of my sweet newborn.
On Monday August 27 I went for my scheduled 40 week appointment. My husband and I got to see our little boy on the ultrasound and were laughing at the fact that he was going to have "little" hair because we were both born bald. The ultrasound tech was giving us all of his vitals and estimated his weight at 7lbs and 8oz. Then she told us that my fluid levels had dropped a little bit, which had me starting to worry. We continued out of the room and to sign in with the doctor. As I signed in and did my weekly routine I said hello and hugged my favorite nurses, peed in a cup, then prepared to wait on the doctor for another couple of hours I was called back to the family room. A couple of nurses had went in there and when I walked in they told me not to freak out or cry, which I had been known to do, but that our Dr. would like us to meet him at the hospital right then!! The excitement rolled through me like a wave! I obviously started crying and could not wait to get back to the waiting area. As I walked into the lobby I guess my face said it all because my husband jumped up and grabbed our things and the ladies in the waiting room started giving their congrats!
The 5 minute drive from the Dr.'s office to the hospital was the longest drive of my life. We live about 200 yards from the hospital where we were delivering, so we went and parked the car at the house and grabbed our hospital bags and made the long walk to the hospital. As we went to the Labor and Delivery floor we were put into L&D Room 1 and I was told to gown up. I was still quite confused as I still had not been told exactly what was going on. After getting all undressed and hooked up to the monitors I heard our sweet baby's heartbeat and finally calmed down! After what seemed like a year our Dr. came in to talk to us. He explained that the fluid on the womb had dropped from a level 10 to a level 2 and that they were going to induce labor. I was still only at 1cm dilated and 50% effaced and he told me to be prepared to be here for A LONG TIME! And ohh was he right!
My husband and I were so excited to call our families and let them know that I was being induced into labor and that our baby boy would be here sooner rather than later! My mom and dad were the first to arrive and prepare for a long wait with us! They were so excited about becoming grandparents and were more anxious and nervous than I was! My mom stayed beside me then entire time and I cannot thank her enough for always being there for me. My husband is such a social butterfly and as the day went on he was in and out of the room going to see our families and giving them updates on how we were doing. Finally he got to tell the next news that we would be starting to push after 23 long hours of waiting!
He rushed back into the room and was in position to hold my hand when the nurse asked me to give a practice push. She counted down and I pushed until she told me to stop. She ran quickly to the door and asked where everyone was because she was about to deliver a baby!! Nurses came from everywhere and my Dr. was there waiting. He rushed into the room and told me on my next contraction to push. So I warned him of my next contraction and started pushing and within minutes was holding my precious baby boy!
In the world wind of madness all I could look at was the sweetest baby in the world that they had just handed me. He was so tiny and perfect and I was already in love with this sweet boy.
